 There is no one answer to this question as the number of languages in the world is constantly changing. Depending on how you count there are between 6000 and 7000 languages spoken in the world today. 

However many of these are endangered with some estimates suggesting that half of all languages will be extinct by the end of the 21st century.

There are over 7,000 languages spoken in the world today. The most commonly spoken languages are English (1.13 billion speakers) Mandarin Chinese (1.03 billion) Spanish (460 million) Hindi (460 million) and Arabic (422 million). However there are many languages with far fewer speakers. For example Navajo is spoken by just over 300,000 people while Yolngu Matha has around 1,500 speakers.

However based on various estimates it is generally agreed that Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language in the world followed by Spanish English and Hindi.

There is no one answer to this question as it depends on how you define an official language. However according to Ethnologue there are 7,106 living languages in the world as of 2019. Of these they list 6,909 languages that have some form of official status in at least one country.
